Peru: Recommended Vaccinations

Yellow Fever

Recommendations for all travellers

For your protection, Yellow Fever vaccination is recommended for all travellers 9 months of age and older travelling at altitudes below 2,300m / 7,546ft in all regions of the Amazon Basin (east of the Andes mountains) and the lowland areas of the following regions west of the Andes: Ancash, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, La Libertad, and Piura.

Note: Vaccination is not recommended if only travelling to the provinces of Lambayeque, Tumbes, western Piura, and the southern half of Cajamarca. Take meticulous anti-mosquito bite measures during the daytime in these areas. All other areas of Peru, including Machu Picchu, the Inca Trail, Lima, and Cusco are risk free.

Travel notice

Countries may change their vaccination requirements without notice and in some instances border agents use their discretion to deny entry despite the officially stated requirements.

If there is risk of Yellow Fever at your destination, whether vaccination is required for entry or not, be prepared to show a certificate of vaccination or a waiver stating the medical reasons for not being vaccinated.

Yellow Fever symptoms, prevention, and vaccine contraindications

If your medical practitioner has advised you against the Yellow Fever vaccine, take meticulous anti-mosquito bite measures during the daytime in Yellow Fever risk areas. For more details, see IAMAT's resource: insect bite prevention.
